A savanna is a type of biome that covers 20% of land on our Earth. Savannas are open areas with small isolated trees, or even no trees at all! This means that the tree canopy does not close and allows the sunlight to support (tend to) a large variety of grasses. An area is also classified as a savanna if the rainfall only happens during one season over a year.
